POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR

Pound serves lunch favourites such as an aged Wagyu steak bowl and a clay-pot hamburger steak, alongside charcoal-grilled steaks in a range of cuts. Kyoto vegetables, mushrooms and aged-beef prosciutto with wine round out the menu.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The lunch menu’s aged Wagyu steak bowl brings the beef and rice together in one dish. It is available in limited quantities, and diners who have tried it have remarked on the rare centre of the meat and how the accompanying wasabi makes each bite feel refreshing. Other lunch choices include a clay-pot hamburger steak with 7 kinds of grilled vegetables and a house demi-glace miso sauce, as well as bite-sized diced steak. The menu states that dishes come with salad, rice, miso soup and pickles, except for the keema curry. Choose the bowl for meat and rice together, or make the hamburger steak or steak the centrepiece of the meal.
The charcoal-grilled steaks offer a chance to compare different cuts. The menu describes sotomomo (outside round) as having sweet fat and a satisfying chew; hiuchi as tender and well-marbled; and rump as fine-grained with a smooth texture. Some diners have ordered several cuts, enjoying them medium rare with wasabi. Compare leaner options with marbled cuts to find a favourite.
There are vegetables to choose from as well. Grilled Kyoto and seasonal vegetables are served with grated daikon for a fresh, clean finish, while the 4-mushroom butter sauté is described as light despite the butter. Diners have also singled out the mushroom sauté and grilled Kyoto vegetables as favourites. Some have enjoyed their steak with mashed potato or spinach, too, so the choice of sides can shape the meal.
A meal can begin with prosciutto made from aged beef, which the menu recommends pairing with wine. Options include red and white wine by the glass, as well as Carnivor, a red wine described as a good match for meat. Whether you are taking your time over a dinner of starters, steak and sides or looking for a filling lunch of meat and rice, Pound offers aged Wagyu alongside a choice of cuts and ways to enjoy it.
